Jam With You - A Poem by Ellie Wanjohi
“I love this piece because it's about music”
Ellie Wanjohi
I want to jam with you.
Feel how it feels,
When you do what you do.
When you do what you love,
Especially if you smile somewhere along the jam session.
It's the way you get on those drums,
Light, Heavy, Steady, Then a little wavy.
It's how you get on the sax.
I can't tell whether it's difficult,
Because you make it seem so easy.
I don't care if it's complex,
But it sounds so nice.
It's the mistakes and the comebacks,
The strangers who join in,
And the familiar faces that come closer.
It's the funk on the bass,
The piano tiles that sound like sonic waterfalls,
Then that chord you showed me last time...
That riff I have sort of forgotten...
Your new song sounds nice. Please play it again.
We sound so good,
I hope one day we get paid.
No pressure though, That's the best part.
We've jammed with you,
And I want to do it again.
We haven't jammed yet, But when we do I hope we do it again and again.
